Last month Google began rolling out a carousel-style slider of images as part of its local search results. Tablet and smartphone users are probably already familiar with seeing these business photos that are scrollable from side to side; the feature is just now appearing on desktop searches.
“The carousel places greater importance on the use of images in your Google+ Local listing,” explains Nick Boylan, Digital Marketing Manager. “Searchers can view images about your business before they click on your listing.
Nick explains that these photo-enhanced search results are not yet appearing in all categories, particularly B2B categories. Listing categories like restaurants, bars and consumer businesses are the first ones to be displayed with the carousel, and Google has indicated that they will roll this out in other business categories over time.
So how can you use this new feature to make your own business more appealing to searchers?
“Add up to three good quality images of your store front, interior or product. If your listing does not have any images uploaded, Google will resort to using an image of the location map,” Nick advises. A compelling, attractive image in the carousel can go a long way to helping you look better on, and get more traffic from, Google+ Local.
